Despair not the mercy of God

“And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then surely I am very near; I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he calls on Me, so they should answer My call and believe in Me that they may walk in the right way.”

– Quran, 2:186

Either you’re stuck in financial stress, or in the abyss of sins, or maybe in grief, this is for you. Do not despair the mercy of God. God listens, and He answers the prayers of those who call to him.

It is no unique situation when one is inflicted with sadness and pain. It is all part of God’s plan so that humans return to God and place all his hope and patience on Him. Of course, we might have doubts sometimes. But that is the test as God said:

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, who, when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”
– Quran, 2;155-156

Brothers and sisters, I am here to give those good tidings to you. There is light at the end of the tunnel if you search carefully enough. If you are patient, and you remember God (in the context that you belong to God, and to Him you will return, as in the ayah above) you won’t have any logical reason to lose faith in life or feeling uncalm. You might be sad, but you will find strength and peace to continue life. This is the promise of God:

“…Now surely by Allah’s remembrance are the hearts set at rest.”
– Quran, 13:28

If you believe in God, what do you have to lose? In the end everything returns to God as in the previous verse. That means you own nothing in the first place. You can’t lose something if you didn’t have any in the first place!

But the mercy of the Most Compassionate has no bounds. Although He is the rightful owner of everything that is in the heavens and the earth, still, out of His mercy, wants to give His servants great blessings. Those who believe in Him and do good deeds will be admitted to His paradise- where everything they ask for will be granted and never will they have pain again. This is the promise of God.

Those who truly believe in God, they do not despair the mercy of God. They know that the Most Knowing and Most Wise always has the best plan. So call to God and believe in Him! Only those who disbelieve despairs the mercy of the Most Merciful.

And despair not of Allah's mercy; surely none despairs of Allah's mercy except the unbelieving people.

Prophet Muhammad, upon him peace and blessings, went through a very hard time in his life where he grieved for the loss of two very dearly persons to him. First, the death of his uncle, Abu Talib. Abu Talib was the one who protected the prophet from the threats and violence of the disbelieving Quraisy people. Abu Talib’s death was soon followed by the death of Khadijah, the wife of the prophet whom he loved the most. She was the first one to believe in the prophet and also sacrificed a lot for Islam until her death. The death of these two persons surely sent a shockwave of sadness to the prophet.

Nevertheless, due to his love for God and his spirit to establish Islam, he never lost hope and kept trudging on no matter how difficult the situation is. The ustawun hasanah (noble example) of the prophet is what we should all follow. God did not send down an example if it is impossible to follow.

I leave you with a beautiful piece of a poem about who we are and that we are the product of divine love.

“The God who made the stars, the seas, the mountains and its peaks, the universe and its galaxies felt this world would be incomplete without you and without me. Do you see how you are a puzzle piece in the whole- how without you here, there would be a hole? Your body is not just a clay tent that you live in, it’s a piece of the universe you have been given. You are not a small star, you are a reflection of the entire cosmos. Can you hear the big bang in your heart? Eighty times a minute God knocks on the door of your chest, to remind you that He has never left and that He is closer to you than the jugular vein in your neck(50:16). Every moment is divinely blessed, for this very moment, for this moment of God is blowing the breath of life through eight billion different human chests. You are not just star dust and dirt, you are a reflection of God’s beauty on earth. You are this mortal body that death will one day take. You are an everlasting spirit held in the mortal embrace of clay. You are a human being meant to be spiritual; you are a spiritual being living this human being miracle”
