Live a life of love

Stop living a reactionary life. Start living a proactive live. Don’t live like a cow dragged by its nose, but live like the farmer who drags the cow.

You have been living a life based on reactions. All your actions are not coming from you, rather, they are a reaction to what your surroundings are. You are hungry? You find food. That is reactionary (comes from the word ‘react’). They are not conscious decision but instinctual.

You are afraid of society’s expectations? You build your life and career to look good in society’s eyes but inside you feel empty. You feel dead. But you do it anyway because that’s how you were brought up. You went to school not because you actually thought that school was good but because your parents sent you there. You spent three to four years in university not because you actually think university is good but because everyone is going there.

Don’t live a reactionary life. I call this the life based on fear, because the actions are based on what will happen if you do NOT do that action.

Live your life with something to look forward to everyday. That is the proactive attitude I call living a life of love. Your actions are not only based on what will happen if you do NOT do something, but more importantly what will happen if you DO something. Meaning, you start to chart the pathway of your life instead of letting society or your paretns mould it for you. You take the lead in your life. Control. You’re actually holding the steering wheel. You’re the captain.

You want happiness? You create it instead of asking for it. You want to be rich? You first define what is being rich – and not simply adopt society’s standards of what ‘rich’ is. You want love? You start to love yourself first instead of begging from others.

As you can see, it all starts from YOU.

Danger of living a life of love

The danger of living a life of love is that at one point you’re gonna as yourself ‘what’s the point?’ What’s the point of living your life when you finally got all that you want. You have chartered your path.. but you don’t know what’s next. In the end you ask yourself what’s the point when we will all die anyway.

When finally you are able to dictate how your life will be like, you kind of loss when you got what you need.

My friend, if you’re experiencing this, return to God for God is the perfect in all attributes. When I said ‘live a life of love’ I meant live a life of loving God because God is infinite in His Glory and Supremacy. God is infinite in His Love, Beauty, Grandeur. Live a life improving yourselves everyday to please God – to attain His Love Mercy, and bounty. That is the most pure love of all.

This is easier said than done, for I myself am not someone who has achieved the mindset above. But I know it is the ultimate aim and the only thing that can give ultimate satisfaction in life:

وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَتَّخِذُ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَنْدَادًا يُحِبُّونَهُمْ كَحُبِّ اللَّهِ ۖ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَشَدُّ حُبًّا لِلَّهِ
And there are some among men who take for themselves objects of worship besides Allah, whom they love as they love Allah, but those who believe, are stronger in love for Allah…
(Qur’an 2:165)

الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُمْ بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ۗ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ
Those who believe and whose hearts are set at rest by the remembrance of Allah; now surely by Allah’s remembrance are the hearts set at rest.
(Qur’an 13:28)
